What does everyone do abou appropriate footwear? And where do you get it from? I have found a firm called Cosy Feet who do shoes for a variety of medical conditions including diabetes. If you have certain medical conditions you can register to be VAT free.

I recently bought a couple of pairs of shoes in the cosy feet sale. Having been in mens trainers for some time and got through no end of cheap trainers, I thought I'd try these. I bought a couple of pairs in the sale for very little more than I'd pay on the high street. If I have been doing a lot of standing or walking about, my feet still ache atthe end of the day, but the difference is noticable.

The shoes are not cheap (even VAT free) but it is worth checking them out to see what yo think. They do socks, tights and other products, but mainly shoes the web adress is www.cosyfeet.com:surfing:

    Its a good question

Thankfully, I work from home, so can wear what I like rather than what is socially acceptable.

This means sandals/slippers/slip-one most of the time.

The down side is that my feet spend so much time in loose fitting shoes, that if I ever need to wear standard 'work type' shoes for a meeting it is a living hell!

Some places do wider fittings. If you have a good Clarks shoe shop near you (ours is only a factory out let), that may help. At the moment I am in a pair of Cosy Feet Shoes (nice girly pink ones) and have been asked where I got them from. It is worth doing something like a google search too.

One of the reasons I decided to try Cosy Feet is the last pair of trainers (womens ones unusually for me) hurt my feet so much I only wore them once for long enough to go food shopping (about 2 hours too long) in and they went to the charity shop.

I did come across another site, the shoes are not specifically for people with medical conditions, but they do shoes in a variety of width fittings. Go to www.shoetailor.com

That looks useful Caroline - thanks for that.

I too have width-challenged feet, might go for a pair of those 'desert boot' type things they have on there.

I like this site, we are here to help each other, and none of us are alone. I have always had odd feet, and until recently problems with shoes.

I understand that some podiatry departments at the hospital will fit problem feet with shoes. If you're not bothered by style (I think comfort is more important), then shoes from the hospital are good, and often cheap or free depending on medical condition and financial circumstances...

Reading through my current Diabetes UK magazine I have come across anaother site whose website is www.simplyfeet.com
I haven't looked at the web site yet, but it may be worth checking out. My feet are now like the title of a film Happy Feet...
