Welcome to Diabetes Buddies

Any one need ideas for christmas presents? Here are some that might also do some good:
Adopt an animal at London Zoo. My grown up son is mad keen on gorrillas, so for his birthday one year I adopted a gorilla for him, but you can adopt just about any animal, particularly if it is endangered. This includes spiders and snakes for those who'd rather not have a cute animal to love.
Buy a diabetic friend a years membership to Diabetes UK
Adopt a book at The British Library starting from £25, and dependent on the recpients tatses there are plenty to pick!
Pay for a period (month, 6 months, 1 year) of gym membership
Well they are just some of my suggestions, anyone else got any other ideas?
hmmm.... lemme think now.
Personally, I always welcome any present that is 'kitchen related'
My favourite present I received was a VERY heavy granite pestle and mortar - there is something really gratifying about battering the ***** out of garlic, chili and ginger in preparation for a culinary masterpiece (OK - maybe its a 'bloke' thing
)
I can live with battering the life out of something for that perfect culinary experience and you can adopt a copy of Mrs. Beetons cookery book!

Indeed !!
I make my own pickles, piccalilli's and chutney's, that my kith'n'kin seem to like - the taste is so much different than the shop bought stuff - though admitidly more expensive to make. This year I've devised a killer fruity-chilli chutney that is fruity and mellow tasting for the first five seconds, then it jumps up and slaps you across the back of the head without warning. From the inside.
Should gee-up my vegetarian son
Seriously, I'm well pleased with it.
(thinks...) Perhaps I should put a skull-and-crossbones on the label. Or a picture of a horrified turkey
I just started using my slow cooker again - a great xmas present for a diabetic IMO.
So many of the foods that are good for us benefit from a slow cooker; whole grain rice, lentils, barley etc
Got a healthy stew bubbling away in one right now :)
I can smell your stew, can I come to dinner? Think I'll have to invest in a slow cooker. Pressure cookers are pretty quick, but since I saw the after math of one exploding, they terrify me. My mum wasn't paying too much attention one day and it got left on way past the time it should have been taken away from the heat!
Yeah - slow cookers are great.
Fill it in the morning, leave it on all day and you come home from work to a perfectly cooked (hopefully) meal.
I feel inspired to get ours out of the cupboard, where it has been hiding with all those other gadgets that 'seemed like a good idea at the time' :)
Oh so that's where all the unwanted gadgets go. I'll have to delev into the back of ours some time soon...
Hmmm. I'll mention that to the Missus (Clause).
S-L-O-W Cooker. Right. 365 ( & 1/4 ) days?
Ta! Mer-eey Christmas EVERYONE !!
Now Christmas is over, did everyone get a lot of nice presents? We all had a nice pile of good presents.
I did most people the equivilent of stockings of little presents, which were hugely successfull. High praise from my father is well they were OK, and my mum said it was quite interesting to see what else was comming out. I'd done lots of little presents and put them in a shopping bag each for my mum and dad, and the bags were part of the present.
