when there is a good service on the Sardine Special Northern Line, is London Bridge North Bound Northern Line Platform is ALWAYS over crowded?
This morning the Northern Line ticket gate line was shut to relieve the pressure, so to get to Kings Cross I got on the Jubilee Line to Green Park and then on the Victoria Line. I was only a few minutes later than if I had gone straight to the Northern Line and got straight on a train!
It normally takes 10 minutes getting straight onto a train on a non congested morning on the Northern Line and about 15 going the long way round!
I used to commute 20 miles by car - it would take me 90mins each way but if I left work 30minutes later, I got home only 5 minutes later than normal.
Wierd rush hour blip I guess.
I am constantly amazed at how my SatNav manages to find quicker routes than ones I have used for years and KNOW are the best.
I had to change the voice from the default 'woman' to a mans voice - I hate been proven wrong by women
A lot of men hate to be proved wrong by women, but having said that, I wish they'd change the on train announcements to a mans voice. A deep mans voice is easier to hear than a higher pitched womans voice, so people are less likely to miss important announcements!
As for Sat Nav, I was recently asked which way was north bound on the Northen Line. I haven't a clue except in one directio I get off at Kings Cross and in the other direction comming home I get off at London Bridge!
WOW, you live near London Bridge, what a pleasure! London is such a beautiful place. I haven't been there, but my friend has been twice and had the most incredible photo's of London as well as a good couple of places in Ireland and Scotland. I'd give anything to visit your beautiful Kingdom!
Apart from the over used transport system, I like being in London. The population of London is expanding rapidly, and the transport and road infrastructures just can't cope.
The most stressfull part of my woking day is traveling as I am not keen on crowds. I used to get the second train to work in the morning (5.45 am), which was always nearly empty, then in March an amazing little boy came to live as part of my family. Because I am on flexible working hours and can change them, I drop my little charge off at the childminders and my husband whose hours aren't so flexible does picking up in the evening.
I live in East London, South Africa, and at present my home is 13 kilo's from work, it takes me round 20 minutes to get to the office as I have to go through the city centre and the traffice is quite heavy. We'll be moving to a new building in March next year, which is only 6 kilo's from home so it will take me approximately 5 minutes to work and I miss all the morning and afternoon traffic as it's in a neighbouring suburb, I can't wait, it's going to be so wonderful. I will miss the building I'm in though, it was built in 1903 and it was my first job, I've been here for 26 years. It's a stunning old building with a beautiful clock tower right on the harbour, the scenery is awesome.

Five minutes to work sounds like the height of luxury. It is an added bonus if you also have a job you enjoy! I work in a brand new building, next dor to St. Pancras Station, which is quite spectacular. Older buildings certainly have more personality...
I know I'm very lucky to be close to my office, my cousin lives in Witbank, which is about an hour from Johannesburg and he has to leave home at 04:30 to get to work by 07:00, by the time he reaches Johannesburg the traffic is something esle, Johannesburg is ENORMOUS, I've never seen traffic like that in my life. East London is very small. I just had a look on the internet and yes, St Pancras Station is STUNNING, it's a huge building. I looked up Kings Cross as well, it's also beautiful.
I think the secret is to enjoy where you are living and treat new places as a bit of an adventure. I don't travel well on my own, so when I am off familiar routes I am out of my depth. My brother got married a couple of years ago and I went up to Manchester on my own as no one else wanted to come with me. I'm glad I went as it proved I could make the journey, but I was worried about it before I went.
