Welcome to Diabetes Buddies

Now Christmas is over - how did you all manage your diabetes?
Did you all have a good time despite the restrictions ?
What did you 'get away with' eating?
I had the whole traditional meal apart from the desserts (no xmas pud, but I never really liked that anyway)
Obviously, 'portion control' was applied a little (but not as much as normal - after all its only once a year)
I didn't miss the 'getting drunk' bit at all - since I was diagnosed diabetic and cut down on alcohol, I find I don;t really like it that much anyway.
I now drink for the nice taste not the 'getting hammered' bit.
rwakefield: What did you 'get away with' eating?
Pretty straightforward for me.
I am vegetarian as well as diabetic, so the 'big meal' was always going to be a bit different anyway.
Veggie Roast, Brussels sprouts, Spicy Roast Parsnips, and new potatoes with garlic and rosemary - yumm!
Smaller portions than non-diabetics, but pretty much the same food.
Christmas dinner is always different for me too, I am a veggie. I dread family invites as some pratt always wants to feed me on quorn which I'm alergic to and wont take no for an aswer when I say I don't want christmas pudding, mince pies or christmas cake.
I have recently found in my local Morrisons diabetic ice cream, sugar free jelly and sugar free instant whip. Custard is OK without sugar if served with something else, but blancmange is horrible without sugar or sweetner in it!
Easter is the one that gets me I LIKE chocolate and everyone else has to hide theirs from me to stop me slipping!
diabetic ice cream
Oooh nice - we have a Morrisons near us, what should I be looking for ?
I remember ice cream..... seems like years - wait, it is!
Don't leave us in suspense CW
The icecream is Franks Diabetic Icecream , I think it is a new line it is YUMMY. I have it with custard made with skimmed milk and no sweetner. A real treat!
Sorry should have added at the moment it only comes in vanilla, but what the heck, it is ice cream!
Vanilla? No problem.
Crushed nuts.
Yippeee - Ice cream again - off to Morrisons immediately
:) :) :)
