I like sweets too, it aint easy to buy sweet treats for others and not for myself. My son tells me off for buying sweets and cakes.

In our house baking is a bit more difficult, I am daibetic and my husband has a dairy intolerance. When my brother and his wife visit, I can't use artifical sweetners as my sister in law is alergic to them!

The theory is a couple of biscuits or a bar of chocolate as part of a sensible diet wont do too much harm, and you are only having a couple of biscuits a week. We all need a treat sometimes. Have a look round and see if there is anything else you fancy, although in the middle of winter an apple doesn't hold quite the same appeal as a biscuit!

When I went to weight watchers, they kept banging on about how sugar has empty calories, and is not good nutritonally.

Thank goodness i'm not the only one who likes abit of choccy now and again  but as i said before i dont go over board, but as my daughter works! she thinks i'm sitting around all day eating chocolate & biscuits.
My daughter is only thinking of me, in the long run as i am over weight and she keeps saying that she's going to download pics off the net of people who have lost their arms and feet due to not following a healthy diet.
I do eat alot of fruit and veg, but i do limit myself with bananas as they contain alot of sugar, i do know what is right and wrong for me.

The real question is whether your blood sugar is well controlled or not.

If you can eat sweet things every now and then and still keep your blood sugar OK, then there is no real problem.

I sometimes have a dessert after a meal out - I just compensate with a little more insulin prior to the meal.

How are things going? Eating can be quite a minefield. My mum tells me you are not allowed to eat this or that then taunts me with it. Now I don't visit her so often she is not happy. Can't win can we? It is hard work being good all the time. If I am down to 5.5 I have a very sweet treat.

Not sure about the sugar in babnanas, but they do have a lot of potassium. It depends who you are talking to. Some people say there is a lot of sugar in grapes and mangos, and others say they are OK to eat in large quntities! Do you ever feel you can't win because everyone else always thinks they are right?

Only 2 biscuits a week? How do you cope?

I carb count, so I can eat almost anything I eat and just give myself inculin for it. I will eat a chocolate bar when I am at University, though I usually go for dark chocolate.

To be honest, I have a lot of intolorences to foods, so if I were to cut down on carbs I wouldn't have much to eat. LOL. But I also couldn't do without my treats.

I was actually told by my diabetes nurse that I can get away with eating a small chocolate bar.

As part of a balanced diet, being aware of how our bodies react to carbohydrates we can eat most things in moderation. I like chocolate too. If I know I am going tobe active I can have a little extra, but if not I try low fat natural yghurt with fruit.

We all need treats, I am trying to re educate myself and get a CD or a book instead of a chocolate bar. The CD or book will last longer, and can be shared...
