Both myself and my husband were told that we were diabectic last christmas and since then we have both controlled the blood levels. Recently my husband have been suffering from very high blood sugar, he doesnt want to go on the injection as he knows that its going to be hard going, so i'm wondering if there is anyone who is able to help me out as he gets really grumpy 'like a bear with a bad head' !!
& i'm the one who gets it in the ear. He's 43.
Many people with senior onset (type 2) diabetes use a combination of tablets and diet.Keeping active also helps to keep blood sugar levels down. Have you talked with your doctor, nurse or health care team?
I was told I am diabetic just before Easter last year, and loving chocolate, you can imagine the hell my family went through! It is not always easy.
Have a look through these forums and see how wveryone else copes. Also think of joining something like Diabetes UK, teir web site is www.diabetes.org.uk
I am on insulin, and it really isn't half as bad as people think.
My blood sugar is far better controlled, I eat more things that I like, and I am far less likely to suffer from complications further down the line.
If he has trouble controlling blood sugar with meds, then insulin should really be considered the 'easy option'
Its like anything, you get used to it - the needles are not like others you have seen - very thin and virtually painless
