Is any one celebrating Halloween this year? I decided I'd be healthy and all the kids that knock at the door looking for sweets will get an apple, orange or banana. I'll use my imagination for dinner and make pumpkin pie with artificial sweetner or sugar substitute!

Is there a halloween equivalent of Scrooge?
'cos if there is, its me :)
I'll be turning all the lights off an pretending I am down the pub (when I am not 'actually' down the pub, that is)
Scrooge is Scrooge no matter the time of year. We all have fun in our own way, so enjoy the pub. WHich one do you frequent and I wont trick or treat there!
heehee - I'm a bit of a scrooge as well.
I don't have kids, and as a result. ever since the age of 14, Christmas, Easter and Halloween have been a 'cost' rather than 'profit' zone for me.
To make it worse, all my relatives seem to be sprogging like mad.
I have been known to dress up and do the 'pub' thing at Halloween, though.
We hadn't imported 'trick or treat' when I was a lad, we just had 'mischief night' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_Night) - which in retrospect seems commercially naive - its just trick or treat without the treat blackmail bit - DOH! - all those missed opportunities
If it were left to me i wouldn't bother with Christmas, Easter etc... as I follow Buddhist teachings. We don't need a festival to be nice to each other, but it makes everyone else happy, so I go along with it. Present recieving mucks up non attachment thoe...
I'm sorta ok with Halloween. Got annoyed for a few years 'cause we got egged if we said no. 'Round here, the eggs are Hard Boiled.
Last couple of years it's been little 'uns in bin liners and mums. Much better. My ten tear old brings back LOTS of fruit, and I tell her ghost stories
"In a teeny weeny house, lived a teeny weeny mouse, and there was a knock on the door......." :) And I cook pumpkin pie - looks a bit like a quiché
BTW, apparently due to the wet summer, pumpkins are going to be green, not orange. They aren't going to ripen in time.
Hey BB, if you want to turn loss into profit, slip a business card into anything you give away - record it as a 'advertising budget' Like petty cash, only worse :)
@ CW. You have to like xmas music?
I do like some Xmas music, I have some very nice Gregorian Chants for Christmas, and my favorite Christmas film is A Christmas Carol (the version starring George C Scott)!
I have been volunteered to make Pumpkin Pie. Any one got any diabetic friendly recipes that don't involve dairy? My long suffering husband has a dairy intolerance!
Hmmm. That's an interesting one. Every pumpkin pie I've ever made has had diary products in it - most pumpkin pies are really a 'pumpkin kiché '
Perhaps experimenting with a kiché recipe, substituting diary for soy milk or similar might be worth a trial run?
I've not found any either - I'd go with Dray and do a trial with a milk replacement.
