For those that are new to injecting insulin, or are scared of even considering it because of the 'injection = pain" thing.
It ain't that bad - honest :)
I inject 4 times a day, and mostly the insulin injections are pain free.
How do I do that?
Well, the first thing to consider is that the needles are very fine and the parts of your body where you inject insulin have less nerve cells than normal.
The trick is to gently tap different parts of your target zone with the needle tip - as soon as you find a spot where you don't feel the pin prick, in you go!
Its not exactly 'pain free' injecting, but is 'relatively pain-free', and it makes the whole insluin thing a little more bearable. Its about the same pain as doing your finger prick test - and often les.
There is an upside to insulin as well, although my doctor will kill me for saying it ;)
If I want a dessert with a meal, all I have to do is crank up my Novorapid by a few points and then check blood sugar 2 hours and 3 hours later to make sure I got it right.
In yer face you non-injecting pill takers

HaHa - no-one like a gloater BB :)
But you'd still go for the insulin pill instead, right?
Must admit for a long time I was terrified of injecting, but once you have kids and see how well some of them take their immunisations, it's not so bad. If I can have my ears pierced for vanity-it hurt like mad-if necessary I can inject for health.

Why would your doc be displeased with you saying this? I think this is a quite old view that people need to break out of. Diabetics CAN eat whatever they like (obvously still maintaining a healthy diet, but that applies to everyone not only us!) as long as they ensure that the insulin they take is in proportion to what they intend to eat. This is why I am a big fan of carb counting...no more guesstimating. You can work out with your dietician how much insulin you need for how many grams of carb, for most people this would be about 1 unit to 10-15 grams, and then adjust likewise. BUT, it has to be said that this only applies to type 1s...or any diabetics that use rapid acting insulin.
I get your point, but my doctor would kill me for not sticking to my weight loss program - in all other respects, she plays nice with my 'cos she knows I run a couple of websites on diabetes and am usually ahead of the game on the latest news/treatment etc
I am a type 2 and definitely need to lose weight, going on insulin generally results in a type 2 putting on weight in any case, so I know that I shouldn't really indulge myself, but what the hell - as long as it is only every now and then.
