  1.

Thank you for this article. My own GP said the home monitors were not very accurate, yet I was given my monitor on the education day I had at the hospital.

When my GP arranges for the blood tests, it is only a snap shot of how things are and if the sugar level is high, then according to him, my diabetes is not under control. When I test at home I am usually between 6 and 7. If I am around 8 or 9, I know I have over done it and am carefull for a few days. On the rare occaisions I am below 5.5 I feel quite ill, so I have something sugary. I geuss between 6 and 7 is the right level for me. Didn't need the docotor for that.

I think my advice is to keep testing on a regular basis and see how you feel generally. All of us here are intelligent grown ups.

I found the article intriguing, because two of the three other diabetics I know don't test, because it gets in the way of them wanting to eat what they want to - an attitude I find totally irrational. Like wise, they're inconsistent in using their medication. Can't get them to see that they're asking for trouble (sigh)

For myself - I'd be lost without my meter. At the very least, because I occasionally have mini-strokes, it's essential to differentiate between those and low blood sugar. Going just by how I feel is not an option. Most times I hover around 6, but for me, below 4 is a problem. My meter helps me shape my diet, thanks to excellent support from my GP. In fact, whatever I go to my GP Practise for, they remind me to bring my book and meter.

Where do you live Dray? can I come see your docotor? Getting information and help from my doctor is like extracting teeth from a chicken:fierce:
