Anyone got any experience of 'Continuous blood glucose testing'.

I remember seeing something about the 'Gluco Watch' some years ago, but it seems to have bitten the dust.
More recently, I read about the MiniMed system, which, if I understand correctly requires a permanent sensor under your skin.

I am interested to know whether anyone out there is using either of these continuous blood glucose testing systems, and if so how accurate are the blood glucose readings, how painful is the sensor insertion etc

Also interested to know if anyone is using one in the UK - particularly interested in whether you got it paid for on the NHS.

I have not used one myself, but I am intrigued by them.

It seems to me that knowing your blood sugar levels at any time of the day is the 'holy grail' and it surprises me that continuous testing is not being pushed more.

I found a couple of personal reports on continous blood glucose testing:

    http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/howto/maryjeansday.shtml
    http://www.insulin-pumpers.org.uk/cgmsexperience/

... these not reviews of the latest CGM systems, but those that let you dowload the data later for analysis. Nevertheless, it is interesting data.

After a nasty hypo incident recently, I am more interested than ever in getting some kind of continuous monitoring system.

In the states they have the sensor to go with the insulin pump but the insurance companies have not cleared it to pay for it yet and it runs about a thousand dollars on top of what you pay for the pump.I would love to have it but am waiting for the insurance companies to step in.However the sensor much like the pump is inserted by needle essentially.Have heard of the gluco watch but it seemed to have dissappeared as quick as it appeared.

Yeah, I heard the glucowatch had problems - skin irritation or something.

thosand dollars - WOW - thats a high ticket price. Having said that, if it works, I'd consider it
