Has any one ever had a glucose tolerance test done? Can you tell me what is involved please. A friend asked me and I THINK it involves fasting, a blood test, a sugary drink and more tests two hours later, but I am not certain

    Yeah - I have had a few.

You don't eat after 8pm the previous night - attend the test centre, they give you a sugar drink (in my case lime juice - bleagh) and then tested me at intervals thereafter - think it was 30minute intervals for a couple of hours.

Thanks, I wasn't too far out. I can now pass reassurance on.

When I went for my pre-diagnosis glucose tolerance test, they tested my blood before they gave me the juice and said 'you ARE diabetic - no point in doing the test, your blood sugar is way to high to give you the juice.

Well, at least it removed any doubt I may have had :)

Thanks for help, I was able to print this page off and pass it on to my friend who does not have the internet. She is re-assured and asks me to pass on her thanks too.:tongue::wink:
