What does everyone think of them. I use Splenda in my tea but that's about it. Some people bake with it but I'm a terrible baker so I haven't attempted that yet.

Can I have people's views on the use of them? That would be super!

I have tried Splenda, but I wouldn't touch anything with Aspartame, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame) - I have heard too many scare stories about it.

As I understant it, Splenda is made from natural sugar so it healthier all round and better for baking.
I don't bake, so can't vouch for it.

I bake - because I enjoy it. I tried a broad range of artificial sweeteners,
but I wasn't happy with the taste. After a bit of (actually, a lot of experiment)
I used soft fruits like plum, apple, lemon,or orange juice, at the end of cooking.

The thing is with cooking with fruits tho, they all have an individual taste.
So I'm afraid you have to have fun and play around with recepies. :)

It's all about having fun anyway's isn't ? I have Candrel in my tea :)

I don't use any sweeteners now - despite the fact that I used to have sugar in coffee and tea, eat sweets and chocolate etc

I gave them up when I was diagnosed and now find that my taste has changed and I find them all just too sweet.

Don't know why it happened, but its a blessing :)

S'the trouble with having a family - you have to juggle personal needs against family wants.

I love to cook. So that's a baseline. Do the the family and I eat together with the same meal?

Or do I cook and eat something different?

Upside - everyone eats healthy. Downside - finding something everyone likes. Now THAT'S a pain

/edit - in context, I'm used to artificial sweeteners - the family aren't. To them, they taste 'different' even in cooking/

I like to bake, and in our house baking is complicated. I am diabetic and my husband has a dairy intolernace. If I am baking for everyone I use unsweetend soya milk and artificial sugar. I prefer Splenda and candarel. My son will be 21 soon, so I'll make him a proper cake to share with his friends and a soya/candarel cake to shre with the family.

I haven't had sugar in tea since I was 11. Coffee I like whitener and sugar in, so that is a rare treat. Cocoa I have artificial sweetner in thoe when I do have it.
