Are there any other type 1's out there? I mostly see type 2 on these support sites.
Any type 1's out there?
I am guessing thats a no - seems like us Type 2's are the majority
Although I read some research recently that suggested the two conditions were more closely related than previously though: http://www.informationaboutdiabetes.com/news/cure-for-diabetes.php
Not sure I fully understand why - seems the more they find out, the less they know.
Hi
I am new and I am Type 1. I have joined a few of these sites and found mostly Type 2s as well.
smartprofessor
Hiya.
I'm a type 2. I don't use insulin myself, but I have mate's who are diagnosed type 2, but use insulin.
I'm aware that traditionally there's seen a separation between the two 'communities'
Particularly since this prat assed GB government has gone heavy on emphasising that unhealthy people
can become type 2 - so there's arrived a common misconception all type 2 is self inflicted. Far from the truth.
I (The Dray) strongly suspect that type one's just kind of feel they arrive at being type one, while type two's can 'cure'
it with a few simple lifestyle changes. Which is why some type One's see themselves as somehow separate.
Naw. 'tain't like that.
So, to put things into perspective. Yup, some type 2's are type 2 because they need some lifestyle changes. 'Fair enough.
But some people are diabetic by degree. By that I mean, I inherited being type 2, from having a family history of type ones.
I am neither overweight, have had a mainly vegetarian diet for many, many years, and only see the inside of a pub at weddings
and funerals. And I'm on my feet 24/7 :) yet I share the same risks a type One. Nothing I did, and nothing and no-one I ate.
Bit like type One really.
My point is, forget the label or how we medicate our diabetes. Diabetes isn't so much One's or Two's. It's how we can share
info to enable all of us to live the best and most active lives we can, and avoid the pratfalls.
C'mon peeps. Lets not divide off, eh?
Best Wishes, The Dray,
yeah - totally agree Dray - its not so much the label as the fact that we all need to lead similar life styles and face similar problems.
Hiya! i'm new to this, but i'm a type one.
I think the common denominator is we are all diabetic, most of us have to medicate in some way and all of us haveto be aware of what we eat.
A couple of my friends are type two for whom the pills and diet didn't work and ended up with the injections. It is a learning curve for all of us. The point of this forum is for support, I wasn't aware it was a them and us thing.
nah - its a them and us thing - lets beat up on the type 1s
just kidding
Its all the same problem really - all welcome - I'm a type 2 insulin injector - think of me as a newbie type 1
nah, lets go beat up on all the non-diabetics instead
As I understand it, Type 1s get a rougher deal than us Type 2s - diabetic for longer and insulin dependant - but essentially, we are all in the same boat so we all man the oars together :)
