Is it just me or is it becoming more and more difficult to withdraw money from the bank? OK I don't want anyone else to get at my money that I have worked hard for, but it also means I can't get it either.

I went to the bank today to pay my credit card bill, straight transfer from one account to another as the bank and the card are the same company. They inform me I now need a debit card, but they can't tell me what else I need a debit card for.

My salary is paid into my account and I am always very carefull NOT to let it get overdrawn, so when I pay my credit card bill, as close to my salary payment as possible, I know there is money in the bank. I only pay my credit card bill from that account and get the odd ammount of cash.

The caterers at work don't accept credit card payments for anything under £5, that's a lot of tea and fruit (or chocolate on treat days), so I need cash sometimes.

Can anyone else remember the good old days when you went into a bank, didn't need to queue up and a nice smiley cashier said OK here's your money? These days the banks seem to change their policies so often that even the bank staff struggle to keep up, so no more nice smiley bank staff

OK whinge over, maybe I can write a book and become famous and stuff all my mega millions in a matress or something, the bank of me...

I'm confused. Why would anyone one need a debit card if they need a balance transfer? I presume a debit card is a cash card.

It's no use for balance transfers. Cash cards are are only useful if you don't have a credit card. Only thing I can think of is
that you're someone who often pays of their credit card balance in full regularly. If you do, you aren't going to be popular
with a bank because they aren't making a profit out of you. Can't see how they'd profit from a cash card.

Easiest solution seems to be to estimate your monthy usage, and set up a standing order + a bit extra, OR internet
    banking...

Ask around http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ some cool tips there.

Hi Dray, I rarely pay off the full ammount of my credit card and these days go to the bank about twice a month, once to pay my credit card bill and once to get cash.

I am not a fan of internet banking. Although the cashiers sometimes drive me crazy, I like to see a person. If you ask a machine something it is programmed to say yes or no and not offer alternatives. If you ask a person something, they can say yes or no, but the realy good ones are able to offer alternatives.

Also with all the redundancies and closures, I like to think I am doing my bit to keep someone in a job in seeing a cashier each time.

Advantage of paying of your credit off in full each month is that you arent paying interest. I was digging around moneysaving expert and discovered there's an interesting pre-pay card available. From what I can see, you can top up the card, but you pay a small percentage every time you do. Interesting thing is that there's no credit reference check. Useful for net purchases maybe?

Thanks Dray where is the card available from? I have seen one advertised (Tuxedo I think) where you can get your salary paid onto it and then use it ias a credit/debit card.
