do you find as a diabetic that you suffer from depression????
i have been type1 for over 9 years now and still find that i have the dreaded dark times. i am currently having a hard time and feel like just giving up.
well just wondered if i am strange or if it is still normal to be getting these feelings after this time???
mike
Not hit that myself. I tend to get brassed off rather than depressed. Interesting that you link the diabetes with the depression.
In what way do you mean? I'm a 2, and they found I was diabetic after my first stroke yonks ago.
Is it managing your lifestyle, and the injections keeping your diabetes at the forefront of your mind?
Could it be that your insulin is a bit high and leaving you feel washed out? I have a 2 mate in his thirties who uses insulin
at night, and has diabetic neuropathy that makes walking difficult, and it really gets him down, but mainly because the
insulin makes him feel washed out.
On the other hand, we have a type one mate who's horribly cheerful. He gets out and about a lot. He says he gets
down sometimes, but (a) he has a dog (b) He cheers himself up by buying himself something really expensive.
hi dray,
yeah it can be to do with having to inject, but i do find for me personally it is just being diabetic that triggers it. it is worse when i have extra stress in my life that i dont encounter everyday. so it can be a bit of a bad thing. i do have ways normally to deal with it, but sometimes they just dont work.
i am also normally the most cheerful person in the world and dont let diabetes get to me, but every now and then it just happens to get to me.
My experience of depression is kinda second hand. I have a few close relatives and friends
that have had and are. I know it hit's you deep and it hits you hard. To be fair, it's hard being around
people who are depressive too. It affects how people see you too.
The common mistake people make is that if you suffer from depression you are 'fed up'. No you aren't.
You've fallen into a hole you feel you can't get out of. Prescription meds, beer, can help briefly, but friends
are even better. You need a hand out. Not people you can depend on, but people you can say, 'Ullo mate,
nice to hear from you." Try it :)
I find I'm the one eveyone comes to for support and a shoulder to cry on but when I need a shoulder there is no one there because everyone else thinks I am strong. I find this very isolating because I sometimes need to have a good bawl. Not sure how to explain it properly, but it is nice to have someone wh will make me smile when I am in the pits of despair.
I asked my Bear - who's more Paddington than Grizzly - and she says it's just as important
to have someone around to be noxious with and moody who's forgiving. Guess that me :)
She likes sunshine, I love thunderstorms and rain, She LOVES being warm - gimme winter
and snow anytime. She's a daytime person - heck, happiness for me is sat on my front
step at 03:30 talking to Foxy the fox, and the local bonkers cats ....
I guess, thinking what mikep says, it's good to have company? Me, I can't avoid it...
We are all different, and different things work for us. At certain times as a woman only chocolate will do. It is always nice to have someone who understands or who is sympathetic. At least with these forums we have friends online and space to get things out all the time.
