My 6years old son is going to have an oral surgery. We have talked to his endocrinologist and pediatrician so we know what we are supposed to do for before and after the surgery. But we would like to hear some experience and an advice. My concern is his blood sugar during surgery since he is not allowed to eat anything 6hours before the surgery.

Keep an eye on things and do regular tests to make sure sugar levels are OK. I think most of the advice you need will have come from the experts. Also talk to the dental surgeon who will be able to help.

is the surgery being done at the hospital or at the dentists surgery? I'm sure verything will be fine, but do discuss your concerns with the dental surgeon and nursing staff too, then they will know what to look out for.

    As CW said.

Don't be afraid of being impolite. Or to be more blunt - don't be afraid of being seen a pushy mum. As you're probably aware, young 'un is passed from team to team towards surgery, and it won't hurt you or them to let them know as it progresses. Ask at each step if they're aware he's type one.

Start by reminding his primary care team - bedside team before surgery if you like - that he's a type one.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Dray.

Has the surgery happened yet? I hope it all went well and your son is fine now. DO let us know how you got on.
