Anyone got advice about coping when stressed. Control goes out of the window, insulin requirements soar and even then can't cover the sugar levels? Help!

yeah - its not good - stress really does up your blood sugar.

On a personal level I try to deal with it by increasing my blood testing and trying to get rid of the stress.

That may sound a little trite, but its not meant to be - its just the only thing you can do AFAIK

I've been a type 1 for 23 years and have experienced almost every related problem to diabetes. When stressed excercise is the only thing that helps and reducing your carb intake.Insulin resistance will also make your blood sugars higher especially in times of stress.

I really wish I could start doing more exercise.
Most gym-type exercise is just so bloody boring.

I use to play badminton years ago, and I'd love to take it up again, but I really need to find someone about the same fitness level (ie 'not very') and the same badminton skill level (reasonable) - otherwise its a bit of pointless exercise.

'Tis true. Stress does knock the numbers up. 'Fraid you have to add it to the list, along with the hardened arteries and the fluid retention and the bloomin' podiestrist pokin' at y'feet with pointy objects ect ect. It's enough to stress anyone... Brrrrr.... ;)

Seriously, for me, the answer is to treat myself. I'm not a big eater, but I love to cook. So I cook myself something small, complicated and REALLY special. That's my reward. Or buy myself something nice and expensive. Either way, it's quality, not quantity :)

Guess stress management is a personal thing - It works for me to do something that makes me feel good. I AM The Dray  and I deserve everything I earn keeping this bloomin' thing under control. And S*d anyone who thinks otherwise

    "quality, not quantity"
Ooooh yeah - thats definitely something that I have taken on board recently.

I used eat butter instead of reduced fat margarine - I would eat it with everything and lots of it!
mmmmm... new potatoes, crumpets, toast etc
None of these work with low fat margarine :(

I used to buy supermarket own-brand butter to save money.

I still eat butter, but now its a luxury for special occasions BUT, because I eat it rarely, now I buy the most expensive organic stuff and it is SOOOOOO much better!

I'd like to know of people's way to beat stress. I suffer from it a lot and my sugars go skyhigh.

Taking a 'kind-of buddhist' view of life helps.

Not in a religious sense, but from a philosphical view it works well.

    eg
All my suffering is caused by my desires.
All of us are born and die - those two are fixed. The bit in between is a journey, best to enjoy the journey if you can.
People can only upset them if you give them the power to.
Mostly what we see as major problems are, in fact, minor irritations if you look at them in perspective.
    etc etc

All of which can be summed up, I guess by 'putting things in perspective' and enjoying life :)
As I read somewhere, 'Life isn't a rehearsal'
