Does anybody out there with Type 1 have experience with serious bodybuilding/weight training. 1.5 years ago before I was diagnosed I was into Figure Competitions and now that I am stable and "at terms" with this disease, I have many questions that my DES cannot answer properly.
1/ I prefer to eat my am meal and then do my weight workout within the hour - so I do not "crash" when I am training and depending on my BS# on wakening, I usually must eliminate my Humalog altogether as it is a fairly strenusous workout -- QUESTION - Is it better to take the insulin and have the glucose shuttled to my liver and muscles that my body can draw on when I am working out and bring my mid morning snack along to stave off the LOW I will experience????
Also, after following my DES Dietician food plan for 6 months after my diagnosis, I have gained 25lb and although I am still in a healthy weight range 170lb for 5'11", I have never been this heavy - I have been a fitness instructor for 10+ years and I am having a heck of a time losing weight - suggestions???

Phew, there's a lot of questions built into one

I'm a type 2. From what I can gather from type one mates and type 2's on insulin you have to go by feel and testing and there isn't a definitive answer.

I presume as a 'builder' that most of your input is high protein? I think you've answered your own question.

"I usually must eliminate my Humalog altogether as it is a fairly strenuous workout -- QUESTION - Is it better to take the insulin and have the glucose shuttled to my liver and muscles that my body can draw on when I am working out and bring my mid morning snack along to stave off the LOW I will experience????"

If this makes any sense - don't be defined when you eat, but you're going to have to be defined about what you eat. I'm suggesting that you keep a meal nearby, and maintain the protein at a slightly lower level, but because your a builder track up the carbs a slight amount, but also track up the lactose - otherwise you're going to hurt when you work out, which will confuse the way you feel and make life difficult.

Hear what your saying about weight gain, but if you build regular you're going to put weight on. Whether you're unhappy about that depends whether that's fat or muscle friend :)

As always - I'm open to correction

    Good luck!
