Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me please? my ex-partner has been really ill just lately. He is Type 1 diabetic and has been for over 25 yrs (hes 43) he has diabetic neuropathy in various parts of the body and has trouble walking and sometimes has to self catheterise (only occasionally) He has recently been in hospital once again as he keeps feeling very dizzy and cant keep food down. He was let out of hospital last night as it was the weekend I think, as I cant beleive they sent him home when he is quite clearly not well enough!! Anyway the problem he has now is that he has developed ketones (+4) and I am really scared that it could do some damage. Does anyone know what I shouold do now, the other problem is that he lives on his own (I live over ten miles away with my new partner) He has had ketones before but I dont think it was +4! I have phones NHS direct but they said bring him to the walk in centre, he cant move, evertime he does he feels sick and has no energy. I am really worried. Any suggestions?? Ann:cry::cry::cry:

Have you spoken to his GP or the diabetic clinic at the hospital? They may be able to help or offer advice. Sometimes you need to be very persistent. Is there anyone else around who also may be able to help? I know distance is a problem, but it may mean you and someone else taking him to the hospital or clinic by car. It needs two of you, one to drive and one to look after your ex partner.

I hope the gentleman is well soon, let us know how you get on.

The "can't move" is rather worrying. That suggests he might have trouble using his insulin, and that would be a heap of trouble.

I'm with C.W. - you need to talk to his GP Practice, and the ward he was discharged from. Perhaps they could send someone out to him ?

Ann, how did your partner get on? I hope he is feeling better and things are getting sorted
