I have finally ran out patience with my local health center and the NHS testing services.

I am a busy man and taking time out to attend the regular tests and checks that are required is a damned nuisance, but I do because I need to to for my health. What annoys me is when I go for the tests and they lose the d**mned sample.

This has happened to me three times now, and that is three times too many.

I understand that many of the tests can be carried out at home with 'self test' kits - does anyone in the UK know how I go about doing this?
I want to do ALL the critical diabetes tests (apart from the eye tests) at home if possible.

Anyone know what are the tests that are needed, and where can I get the kits?

(sorry, how rude of me - 'hi, everyone')

    GB?

Soz if this is a bit simplistic.

Okidoke. When I was diagnosed as Diabetic, I had a choice of a standard NHS meter, or some vouchers giving a fiver off.
Bottom line is, I (we - wife is carer) went for the vouchers. Your local Chemist should be able to provide you with a meter
    at a very cheap price.

    Yeah, GB.

Sorry, I probably didn't explain very well.

Its not the standard blood glucose test meter that I am after - got one of them already. Its the regular checks that you need to go to the medical center for.

Things like the Hba1c test, ketone test etc

    that make sense?

The idea appealed to me too, so I've done some asking around, but I've drawn a blank.

The nearest thing that -might- fit the bill, is the possibility that some major stores may
open drop-in surgeries. Boots were going to trial it, but now their likely to be taken over
by a private equity company, all bets are off for a while.

I'm going to ask around private health insurance companies like BUPA, who tend to
be more flexible about appointments and result dates, but that that's only half a
solution - you still need an appointment... and they cost +time is money.

Dunno if any of the adverts at the bottom of this page are any good?

    Found one here http://www.mypharmacy.co.uk/health_products/products/g/glucomen/glucomen_a1c.htm

Looks reputable enough - I'm going to order one - I'll let you all know how I get on.

Be interested to know what the private health care options are as well.

That looks interesting, I might go order myself - the cost is low enough to justify it I think - the cost of taking time out to attend the clinic HAS to be higher than that.
