My lass says it's a bit like Weight Watchers. She says, that like weight watchers, if your willing to pay over a long period of time, and not go to a chip shop or Mac Donald's afterwards, AND you want/need to lose weight - it's cool

edit - a couple of days later......

I guess what your asking is, whether your ok following a weight reduction diet while being a type 2. The straight answer is yes, but if you look at
most popular diets they're a bit high in salt and sugar, and water content. Then again, another popular diet is a high protein diet.

Downsides? High sugar, and water diets are out, so are high salt. They are often used to disguise the fact that there is little nutritional value in them. Sugar and salt are used to 'up the taste', and water for bulk. Don't believe me? Check the labels. I mean, think about it - minimum nutrition to reduce the calories, while finding taste for the consumer. With a price premium.

So yes - and no - Yes, if you willing to pay for a diet that you accept is of low nutritional value but with plenty of exercise, at a price, with lots of enjoyable company. No, if you think you can work out a good diet yourself.

Personally, I know it's boring to sound like uk gov, but if you can do it, if throughout the day you can eat 'a fist-full' of varied veg, with the same of meat or fish a day, with plenty of exercise, you should do ok. Best buddy likes a Mediterranean diet, and CW has plenty of advice about excersice in this forum.

In my opinion, that's the bottom line actually.

I tried Weight Watchers, it didn't work for me personally and I found it very expensive.

I'd go with the advice of the nurse as a lot of slimming clubs are expensive. Eating sensibly and taking regular exercise or just being more active are more easily said than done, but if you want to lose the wieght that is the way to go. Ask your nurse for help and maybe see a dietician or nutritionist for help too. It might also help to find an exercise or activity buddy. Depends on your interests and the time you have, walking round a museum or art gallery is being more active if you are normally sedentary. If you have a garden, gardening is considerd good for you.

Places like Wieght Watchers and Slimming World work for some but not for all. You have to remember they are out to make money. The sceptic in me says that all wieght loss products and schemes are out to make money from peoples anxieties about a healthy weight, and the word diet doesn't just apply to loosing weight, everyone has a diet of some sort or another.

Eat a sensible diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vege. If you fancy a bar of chocolate or a cream cake once in a while, as part of a sensible eating plan, they do not do too much harm and you feel better for having a treat. You do not have to use food as a reward for being good, a new outfit is nice or a CD or a trip to the cinema. And while you are being more active, it is OK to spend an evening watchin TV or DVD's

Well you have the benefit of my opinion, and it is just my opinion. I have struggled with my weight for years, and at the ripe old (young at heart)age of 50, I am still struggling, but it is good to know there are others out there to share and discuss with.

Just thinking about more physical activity (which I need to do more of), it doesn't have to be boring like going to the gym or jogging. Dancing is quite good fun and a very sociable activity. The joke in our house is I should take up belly dancing because I have a lot of belly to dance with.

If you enjoy the gym or jogging that is great, but physical activty or more of it can be almost anything, it should be enjoyable for you and you need to want to do it!

One of the great things is to not get bored with something, and be patient with yourself. It takes a while to l earn new things and get any good at them in the way an athleat has to train or an actor has to learn a script. You wont be running marathons next week if you start running to day, but it is good to have an attainable or realistic target to work towards.

Personally I find it a great help to have someone to share my experiences with, give me support and commesiration when I fail and cheer me on when I do well. Perhaps someone would like to start a health and fitness discussion or a diet and fitness discussion?
