Hi Hanna  Pleased to meet you. You're doing the right thing by doing a bit of research....

The first and most important advice I can give is to ensure you go to that Doc's appointment, and follow their advice.

The Doc will want to confirm those results, in the light of the other symptoms you describe. An mmol of 8.8 and 7.4
isn't too bad in someone who's otherwise healthy with a healthy diet, and your diet, particularly if you prefer Mediterranean
type food, looks good. Pasta, particularly wholemeal Pasta, is 'slow release' - it's absorbed slowly, which is good for Anyone

However, I could go on about the tests and risks and stuff, but the other probs need checking out first. They may be unrelated to diabetes,
and that's what you need to chat to your GP about, if only to put your mind at rest. So chat to them first, and keep us up to date.

I'll be checking back in a couple of days. Good luck!

    Dray.

    Hi Hannah

How are you feeling now. You did right thing seeing your doctor. Are you one of the lucky ones who can control things with doet and exercise? My dad regilarly has a reading of around 8, As he is fit in every other way, and after further checks, the specialist decided this was right for my dad. Heis very rarely higher and hardly ever below 7.

We are all different, and only you know how you feel. I'm sure things will work out for you.

As long as you eat sensibly, and have a balanced diet, a little sugar wont hurt. If you try to deprive yourself too much you'll go crazy. Even alcohol is allowed in moderation. For me personally, with the medication I am on, more than onr glass of wine and I am drunk! Sugar can't be avoided completely, it is needed in bread to make the yeast work. Look at carbohydrates too, some carbs are beeter than others (whole meal bread and pasta, whole grain rice). Get a GI diet book as it tells which are good carbs and which are bad. But also on a note of caution, the odd mars bar treat wont hurt but it is full fat AND sugar!

Yes there are side effects with diabetes, but with the right care and management, there is no reason why you shouldn't live a normal life. I work full time and have a child of nearly 4 and manage to run a home. This is my life style, I do advise making informed choices.

Also go to www.diabetesuk.org They have lots of usefull information.

You also have us here. because we are all busy, and many of us have full time jobs, we don't always get back quckly. If you look through the postings, you will find lots of usefull information and helpfull advice. If we suggest a visit to the doctors, it is because none of us are medical people and sometimes only a face to face medical consultation will sort things out.

Also (Iknow easier said than done) try not to worry, you are not the only one.

Hi Hannah, it's been a few days since I visited and was wondering how you are now? I hope everything is working out for you?

In an effort to be more active and eat more healthily, I put a few food plants in the garden. Last night we had the first of the strawberries, and as a treat I had cream. The starwberries were DELICIOUS. I am now inspired and have to start reading and talking to the very helpfull man in my local garden center!
