As a newly diagnosed diabetic, I am all confused!! I also live in Spain, and they have a system, whereby you have a 'diabetic testing day'. You need to go to the clinic 6 times a day.....1/2 hour before breakfast, and 2 hours after, and the same all day!! As we eat much later here, I am running upthere around 11 at night!! Now, my question is, I have looked on Ebay at the Glucose monitors so I can do a similar thing for myself at home...but haven't a clue which is best, and how easy it is to get refills etc...anyone recommend one please? Also, I would like to know if the readings are the same (i.e here in Spain it will come out at 197...and then later 132...and once or twice over 200! Now, does that reading correspond with UK systems, as I have seen people on here talking about numbers with 2 digits??

If the Spanish system is like the the USA system... and I suspect it is - then divide by 18 to get a rough equivalent.

So 200 is about 11 mm/ol GB. A tiny bit over the top.

As for the best meter? Truth is it's a matter of what's convenient for you, and how much it costs you.

I've used an Accu-Chek Active for yonks, but being a Stroke Survivor, I've found it hard pushing the test strips in lately.
I believe it's produced by Roché - and they do bug me a lot to get the latest meter. It's true it's an elderly meter.
    I'm comfy with it tho.

My Meter is the One Touch Ultra 2, it is one I feel at ease with, and it is the one given to me by the hospital. When I was first diagnosed I bought one from Boots the Chemist, but didn't get on with it.
