Hi, I'm Melody from Michigan
I just found out, I have Diabetes two months ago Oct. '07. I'm taking 1500 mgs. of metformin. The lowest i have been able to get my sugar is 172. This is all so new any info would be nice. Thanks,
MEL
Hi Mel, Welcome!
I'm in Sheffield, England, and we use the mmol/L system. To convert between the American and British, I believe it's divided by 18.02
(18 is fine) which works out in your case 172 divided by - 18.02 about 9.5.
I presume your getting 172 (9 ish) while on Metformin - I'm on 1500 (3 x 500mg) Metformin daily myself. As a rough rule, you should try and aim
for between 72 (minimum) 126 (max) - that's 4 & 7 British :)
172 (9 ish) comes under not-bad but could-be-a-bit-better. I'd suggest if you can get it down to about 110, you'll feel a lot better.
As it happens, I spent 3 years as a bus driver a few years back :) So I know it's a job where you get plenty of upper body movement
but the pounds can, errr...settle? The figures seem a lot bigger under the American system, but for me, it was a case of dropping
those extra daily 'points'. Exercise worked for me. Keep busy, keep moving, when you aren't driving, Simple stuff like walking
rather than driving if you can, walking a dog, or any exercise that gets you a bit breathless and ups your heart rate for about half
an hour - at least.
Over the Christmas holidays, I've managed to keep mine at a 6 - (108 on your meter), by keeping myself busy.
Good luck !
